Will Lawton and the Alchemists

Friday 18th August 2023

Originally formed in 2015 through the meeting of musical minds of Will Lawton and drummer Weasel Howlett, the duo has steadily and organically grown into a five-piece alchemy of creative flair which fuses Will’s masterful song-craft with the band’s dextrous flair for instrumental flourishes and lush, subtly evolving arrangements.

They have released two albums, Fossils of the Mind (2018) and Abbey House Session in (2020) and most recently a three track EP titled Alchemy (2023). This genre fluid collective fearlessly dips its foot pedals into folk, jazz, drum and bass and a smattering of indie, all served up with intelligent piano playing, intricate drum patterns and folk scorched vocals. This is their second appearance at Purbeck since their debut in 2018.

The band consist of:

Will Lawton (piano and vocals)
Weasel Howlett (drums)
Ami Kaelyn (guitar and vocals)
Buddy Fonzarelli (upright bass)
Harki Popli (tabla)

“Interesting timings and intricate riffs hung on fluid, free-flowing musical structures, their richly textured and layer music contains much more besides. They could be your best new find of the year” – Dancing About Architecture

“Beautiful. Just beautiful.” – BBC Radio Wiltshire
