As the sheer joy and energy radiating from the stage combines with a sophisticated musicianship, the 15-piece Filkin’s Ensemble produce a musical experience like no other. Their distinctive style of ‘orchestral-folk’ forges a new path for traditional music.
Filkin’s Ensemble features a wind quintet, string section, guitars and orchestral percussion with Ellie Gowers’ expressive vocals. Their contemporary reimaginings of English and Welsh folksong draws from both classical and jazz.
The ensemble is the bold vision of Seth Bye & Chris Roberts (Filkin’s Drift), formed as a lockdown project in September 2020. This Birmingham-based supergroup now brings together 15 of the UK’s finest young folk musicians in an adventurous collaboration.
