Dylema Collective
#PVFF18
Sweet Neo-spoken-soul. Dope-ass Funk. Multi-sensory killa-jazz. The kinda music that makes your brain and booty dance.
This is the infectious blend of groove, swag and often disarming fragility that confronts you as Dylema Collective oozes their way through their hypnotic set. Drawing on diverse musical influences – inevitable considering the diverse backgrounds of its members – you find Russian classicism, experimental electronica and Nigerian Afrobeat meeting Latin American rhythms and old-school soul, all woven into London’s contemporary jazz and sound. Having enjoyed a first year including performances at London Jazz Festival, TEDx Brum, award-winning festivals Shambala and Brainchild and opening slots for Tank and the Bangas, Moses Boyd and Nubya Garcia, the collective’s 2018 looks like the year of their actual arrival, with a headline show at Roundhouse Rising Festival, upcoming performances at Brainchild and Wilderness Festivals and support slot for RnB/Jazz/Electro duo Blue Lab Beats. With inspiring, empowering poetry flowing from Dylema’s lips and effortlessly between the group’s poly-rhythms and sounds, the future looks full of promise for this unique collective. Their Sunday afternoon performance at Purbeck Valley Folk Festival 2018 will doubtless be an experience of magnetic proportions; one full of searing crescendos, tingling intimacy and simpering sexuality. Look out for their soon-to-be released 1st single, coming out this Spring.
