We are Destan Dönemi (The era of the Mythology) a Turkish folk duo featuring vocalist and flautist Büşra Algeç, alongside fingerstyle guitarist Evan Graham.
Our approach in songwriting is both to blend the timeless sounds of Turkish folk with modern acoustic elements, creating a unique, emotive and storytelling experience, building a bridge between Eastern and Western musical traditions as well as to communicate the pain, struggle and loss in life which are the pillars of humankind corresponded with love, passion, connection and modesty.
Because the time lives, the light of old stories which established the very foundation of the human race is diminishing. The world we live in is proving to us that when the light of stories which taught us the importance of ethics, being one/acting as one for each other; everything starts to dim, the loneliness and isolation starts to creep in.
This is believed to be the biggest threat against our kind. We are a species which thrives when feeling connected to each other. Thousands of years ago the predators were not able to destroy us unless we were alone and the same rule applies in the modern world.
That’s why Destan Dönemi invites listeners on a journey of musical and personal discovery, giving listeners a space to feel connected just with the magic of music without the need of understanding language, offering a fresh and dynamic perspective on the rich tapestry of Turkish folk music.
